On a variety of measures, such as standardized tests, advanced placement tests, achievement tests, boys especially African American boys, have lower levels of achievement. One of the greatest challenges of school counselors today is helping boys, especially African American boys academically and socially. There have been problems pertaining to the role of professional school counselors as it relates to their academic achievement. These problems vary from racism, classism, poverty, divorce, single parenting, rape, incest, video game violence, gangs and peer pressure etc. Despite the best efforts of Americas educators to bring greater equity to our schools, too many children especially low-income and minority children are still denied the educational opportunities they need to succeed. The answer to helping boys, especially African American boys lies in taking a holistic approach to solving their social, emotional and academic needs. This book comprises innovative character education rhymes, empowerment strategies, creative engaging counseling strategies, out of the box parental involvement strategies, character building techniques, empowerment counseling program development and parenting strategies are shared with the reader. These strategies may be used by parents, teachers, mental health counselors, mentors, mentees, educators, principals, youth workers and, most importantly, the professional school counselor to break the chains of emotional bondage.
